Humble Beginnings

In 1982, Jim Kirkman purchased a small company called Wayne Davis Uniforms. Founded in 1977, Wayne Davis Uniforms was operating out of a garage when Jim Kirkman signed the dotted line. To begin his new venture, Jim changed the company’s name to Wayne Enterprises, Inc. and moved the operation to a 2,000 sq. ft. facility off of Spring Branch Drive in Houston, TX, where he and his daughter, Denise Howard, began their journey. In January of 1983, Mr. Wayne Davis retired his sales position to Ronnie Howard, Denise’s husband. With the help of part time high school employees and an outsourced seamstress, Wayne Enterprises was able to grow to six employees in-house.

Moving Up In The World

In 1986, the company expanded to a 5,000 sq. ft. facility on Brittmoore Road, continuing to call Houston, Texas home. In 1988, continued growth resulted in the purchase of its first multi-head computerized embroidery machine; a huge step for Wayne Enterprises at the time. As the company continued to grow, another milestone was reached in 2001 when the first Online Recognition Program was introduced into Wayne’s offerings.

Continuing to Grow

By 2006, Wayne Enterprises had grown to 112 employees and expanded their Brittmoore facility to 22,000 sq. ft. With no room left to expand, the company was moved to a new facility on West Little York with over 30,000 sq. ft. In 2008, continued growth brought on a second facility bringing the company to a total of 46,000 sq. ft. of operating space. Wayne Enterprises did not stop there.

Spreading Out

In June 2011, Wayne Workwear was introduced in Midland, Texas at the heart of the Permian Basin. As a way to better serve our West Texas customers, Wayne Workwear continued to be successful and paved the way for a second location in Houston, bringing our retail locations to a total of two.

The Present

In February of 2013, with increased growth, Wayne Enterprises’ corporate facility moved to its current 100,000 sq. ft. facility on Hollister Street. With over 100 heads of computerized embroidery machines and massive warehouse inventories, this move brought every department under one roof, streamlining processes and improving our efficiency. In addition to our facility growth, the online presence of Wayne Enterprises has grown leaps and bounds with over 70,000 users currently utilizing our online programs.

Wayne Enterprises started as a family-owned and operated company in Houston, Texas and has remained that way for more than 30 years. With the help of its employees and countless hours of hard work, Wayne is blessed to have grown to nearly 200 employees and thousands of very valued customers. We are beyond thankful for each one and hope to grow many years into the future.
